WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The Seahawks closeout a four-game homestand on Tuesday when they host nationally-ranked NC State at Brooks Field. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
The Seahawks (20-17) picked up a key Colonial Athletic Association series win last weekend when they took 2-of-3 from two-time defending regular season champion Northeastern.
UNCW posted a 7-4 win in the series opener behind yet another strong start from Luke Gesell, who improved to 4-2 on the season. In game two, it was Kep Brown who provided the winning hit in the eighth inning as UNCW earned its fourth win in its final at bat.
The Wolfpack (29-8), meanwhile, dropped all three games to Louisville in a battle of the top two programs in the ACC's Atlantic Division. The Cardinals moved a game in front for the division lead with the sweep. Overall, NCSU has dropped its last five outings entering Tuesday.
UNCW's Greg Jones posted his third four-stolen base game of the season during the Northeastern series and moved into a tie for 10th on UNCW's single season leader list with 26. Brown also extended his career-long hitting streak to 20 games during the season. He is the seventh Seahawk to fashion a 20-game hitting streak in the program's history.
The Seahawks, who have 2-of-3 conference series in the early going are in fourth place in the CAA standings. Elon leads the nine-team league followed by the College of Charleston, which lost a non-conference series last weekend to visiting Dallas Baptist. Northeastern is third by a half game over the Seahawks.
UNCW resturns to the road this weekend with a three-game series at Hofstra. The series begins with a 3 p.m. start on Friday followed by a 1 p.m. start on Saturday and a noon first-pitch on Sunday.
