Seahawk Sports Performance Center
The Seahawk Sports Performance Center opened in August 2004 completed a full renovation in January 2024 to increase the usable space as well as upgrade all of the equipment. Home to UNCW’s 19 teams, the 4,000-square-foot facility features many tools and modalities to enhance each student-athlete’s performance in their respective sport. The space includes 10 racks which include jammer arms, triphasic bars, and multiple forms of accommodating resistance. It also houses custom dumbbells and bumper plates branded with “Seahawk Strength,” four GHD/Hyper combos, a belt squat, a bilateral/unilateral leg press, functional trainer cable machines, lat pull/low row combos, two Peloton bikes, two AssaultRunner Pro treadmills, and various other pieces of equipment to enhance the student-athlete’s training experience.

In addition, the Seahawk Sports Performance staff utilizes TeamBuildr – an online “strength and conditioning” software displayed at each station via an iPad, creating paperless programming and data tracking for each individual student-athlete. Other technologies include Vitruve velocity-based training units and Vald SmartJump jump testing.

Inside the Sports Performance Center is a fully loaded Gatorade Fuel Station stocked with Gatorade Protein and Recovery shakes, chocolate milk, and various other nutrition items to fuel our student-athletes pre or post workout, and in between training sessions. It also includes a pair of large flat-screen TVs used to display educational information on nutrition, fueling, and recovery for our student-athletes along with entertainment during training sessions.

Internship Opportunities
The Seahawk Sports Performance Internship offers internships for the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. We accept applications and will interview potential intern candidates throughout the year.

The Internship
The Seahawk Sports Performance Department employs volunteer full-time interns each semester. All internships are completed on a volunteer, unpaid basis. Any applicant who is unaffiliated with the university must receive and pass a background check prior to beginning any activity on campus. Interns may receive undergraduate or graduate-level course credit for one semester. Lengthened time may be approved by the internship supervisor. Seahawk Sports Performance interns play a significant role in the department by assisting with team training and facility management. Interns will go through and complete an Internship Curriculum which includes career development, program design, varied research of relative topics, and communication with support staff and coaches, while learning exactly what it takes to be a sports performance coach at the Division I Collegiate level. All interns will represent our department and the university well by practicing excellent character, professionalism, good time management, being focused on student-athletes, and continuing education.

The Professional Internship
In addition to our Internship program, our Department employs one "Professional Intern" in a full-time volunteer role. Throughout the semester, this intern will complete a SCCC Certification curriculum under our Certified Mentor of the CSCCA in preparation for the SCCC certification exam. Our department will cover the SCCC exam fee, providing the intern with a nationally accredited certification opportunity to take the next step in their Sports Performance career. This internship is completed on a volunteer, unpaid basis.

For more information and to apply for any internship position, please contact Elijah Cuffee by email at cuffeee@uncw.edu. Please submit a resume, cover letter, and 3 professional references.
