A native of Clemmons, N.C., Dan Gallagher was the pre-eminent swimmer in the CAA during his career at UNCW from 1999-2002.

He was the CAA's Swimmer-of-the-Meet and Swimmer-of-the-Year in 2002 and went on to finish fourth in the 50 Freestyle at the 2002 NCAA Championships in Athens, Ga. Gallagher was invited to swim at the U.S. Olympic Trials and traveled with Team USA to meets in 2004 and 2006.

Gallagher won six CAA titles during his outstanding career and became the second UNCW swimmer to earn NCAA Division I All-America honors in 2002. He led the Seahawks to their first in a long line of CAA championships and also was also named UNCW's outstanding swimmer for both the 2001 and 2002 seasons.

Gallagher was honored as a member of the CAA's Silver Anniversary Team during the league's 25th anniversary celebration in the Fall of 2009.
