MSOC Fan Guide: Elon

WILMINGTON, N.C. – A pairing of the top two teams in the Coastal Athletic Association South Division Preseason Poll kicks off league play for the UNCW men's soccer team when it hosts defending conference champion Elon at 4 p.m. on Saturday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

SERIES HISTORY
The Seahawks own a 6-9-3 record against the Phoenix, who swept both meetings last year in the CAA's divisional schedule format introduced in 2025.
 
UNCW is 5-3-1 vs. Elon in Wilmington, including a 1-1-1 mark in the Port City since 2022.
 
LAST TIME OUT
UNCW ran its unbeaten streak to three games to start the 2026 campaign when it played Furman to a scoreless draw last Sunday at home.
 
Junior goalkeeper Alex Kron established a new career-high with eight saves for his second shutout of the season. It marked the first time since 2018 that UNCW has not allowed a goal over its first three games of a season.

KRON EARNS NATIONAL AND LEAGUE HONORS
 Kron's career day against the Paladins made him the first UNCW player since Jacob Randolph in 2023 to earn CAA Defensive Player of the Week honors on Aug. 31.
 
The Northern Kentucky transfer's recognition grew on Sept. 1 when Kron was named to TopDrawerSoccer.com's National Team of the Week.

FIVE SEAHAWKS EARN CAA PRESEASON ACCOLADES AWARDS
Three Seahawks were named to the Preseason All-Coastal Athletic Association Team while the Seahawks were projected to finish second in the CAA South Division, as announced by the league on Aug. 17.
 
Midfielder Osei Gyamfi, along with Campbell transfer defender Jake Roberts and goalkeeper Trey Smiley were selected among the league's top players following a vote of the league's 10 head coaches. Forward Bryan Miralrio and defender Gavin Carmichael were tabbed as CAA Preseason Honorable Mentions.
 
UNCW earned one first-place vote in the coaches poll behind defending champion Elon. Charleston, Campbell and William & Mary rounded out the polling in the South Division while Hofstra was predicted to win the North Division.

CIRCLE 'EM
The Seahawks, who extended their league record with their 29th CAA Tournament appearance in 2025, will traverse a 16-game regular season schedule that includes eight contests at the UNCW Soccer Stadium this fall.
 
UNCW will once again play a home-and-home series with the four other teams from the CAA South Division – CAA Champion Elon, Campbell, Charleston and William & Mary – after the league changed its scheduling protocol in men's soccer prior to the start of the 2025 campaign.
 
A pair of contests with the Phoenix, along with home games against Southern Conference Champion Furman and St. John's and Atlantic Coast Conference road matches at Clemson and NC State represent the Seahawks' opponents who appeared in last year's NCAA Tournament.

SEAHAWKS AT THE WORLD CUP
A pair of standout alums took the world's biggest stage this past summer when Hjalmar Ekdal and Austin MacPhee competed across North America in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
 
Ekdal, who spent the 2017 season with the Seahawks, is a reserve defender on the Swedish national team.
 
MacPhee, a UNCW midfielder from 1999-2002, helped Portugal to the Round of 16 in his first World Cup in his first year with the country after serving on the national team staffs of Northern Ireland, his native Scotland and Portugal. A renowned set-piece coach, MacPhee joined Premier League club Chelsea in July 2026 after four years with Aston Villa.
