WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The Seahawks host nationally-ranked North Carolina on Tuesday as the two programs conclude their annual home-and-home series at Brooks Field with a 6 p.m. start.
The Seahawks and Tar Heels last met on Feb. 26 at Boshamer Stadium when Dylan Enwiller belted a two-out game-winning homer in the bottom of the ninth to stun the Seahawks. UNCW swept the Tar Heels last year for the first time since the 1981 season.
UNCW enters Wednesday with a four-game winning streak in its back pocket following a three-game non-conference sweep of Siena over the weekend at Brooks Field. The Seahawks swept a doubleheader from the Saints on Saturday and then completeed the weekend sweep with a 2-1 win on Sunday. Greg Jones provided the tying and winning runs with a triple in the bottom of the eighth. Landen Roupp earned his first career win and Henry Ryan converted his first career save.
While the Seahawks were able to sweep its series, North Carolina opened its ACC season with a sweep at the hands of Clemson. The Tigers earned one-run wins in the first and third games and won the series with a 17-3 win in the middle contest.
UNCW junior Zarion Sharpe will make his third start of the season while Will Sandy will make his collegiate starting debut for the Heels.
On Tuesday, Cole Weiss was named CAA Player of the Week after torching opponents with a .529 batting average. Weiss scored seven runs and drove in 10. His grand slam blew open a close game against Siena in game two of the series. Weiss ranks 12th nationally with a conference-leading 23 runs batted in.
