Willford Tabbed Freshman All-America

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW freshman pitcher Trey Williford, the reigning Rookie of the Year in the Coastal Athletic Association, was honored on Thursday by Perfect Game as a second-team Freshman All-America selection.

Williford, who is pitching for Harwich this summer in the Cape Cod League, posted a 7-2 mark and 3.34 earned run average. The lefthander made 17 appearances on the season and moved into the weekend rotation in the final month of the conference season.

In his rookie season, he finished eighth nationally among freshmen in hits allowed per nine innings (6.65), was second in strikeouts per nine innings (11.9), and ninth in WHIP (1.219). His 89 strikeouts were a freshman record for the program.

Williford, who was twice named CAA Rookie of the Week, was also a first-team All-CAA selection and earned a spot on the All-Rookie team.
