Behind The Number: Jacob Sasser

Jacob Sasser red-shirted during the 2014 season and enters his first season of competition with the Seahawks. As a senior at Southern Wayne, Sasser also played football and was a diver on the swim team.

The Seahawks open their season this Friday when they take on Richmond at 4 p.m.
UNCWSPORTS.COM: Why did you choose to attend UNCW?
JS: I Chose UNCW because it has an outstanding baseball program and of course the beach.

UNCWSPORTS.COM: Describe a moment when you felt the most Seahawk pride.
JS: Beating our rival Coastal Carolina in extra innings last year.

UNCWSPORTS.COM: Take us through your pre-game mental preparation routine.
JS: Before every game I sit in my locker and listen to my favorite tunes before locking in and visualizing every aspect and possible outcomes I may encounter during the game

UNCWSPORTS.COM: What are some community activities you or your team have done?
JS: We help the Miracle League and volunteer as much as possible.

UNCWSPORTS.COM: What is your intended or declared major and why did you choose that major?
JS: Biology. I want to become a wildlife biologist. It's my dream job.

UNCWSPORTS.COM: If you could play another sport at UNCW, what would it be and why?
JS: Diving. I dove in high school and loved it. Plus I have a knack for flipping.

UNCWSPORTS.COM: Favorite team tradition/activity and why?
JS: Helping the Miracle League. It is awesome being able to help ones who are less fortunate than us and teach them the game we love.

UNCWSPORTS.COM: Which teammate will have the most interesting job in 10 years and why?
JS: Chris Gaffney. He plans on being a doctor.

UNCWSPORTS.COM: What animal would best describe you and why?
JS: I like to think of myself as a bear because after a few hard days of studying a working hard I like to hibernate for a while.

UNCWSPORTS.COM: What is your favorite quote or phrase?
JS: "When the going gets tough, the tough get going."

UNCWSPORTS.COM: What is your favorite type of food (i.e. Chinese, Mexican, Italian etc.)?
JS: Japanese

UNCWSPORTS.COM: Favorite place you have visited or traveled to and why?
JS: The Bahamas because of the crystal clear ocean

UNCWSPORTS.COM: If you could sit down for lunch with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
JS: My grandpa, I'd give anything to play guitar with him one last time.

UNCWSPORTS.COM: Most addicting television show?
JS: Game of Thrones

UNCWSPORTS.COM: How will you change the world (or even just one person's world)?
JS: I am going give as much as I can back to the community whether it's volunteering or donating so that others can have a better life.

UNCWSPORTS.COM: Tell us something about yourself that most people don't know …
JS: I'm able to do a backflip. With my 6'4'' frame most people don't believe me.

UNCWSPORTS.COM: What is number one on your bucket list and why?
JS: Skydiving. It seems like an awesome experience.

UNCWSPORTS.COM: What is your best non-athletic skill?
JS: Playing guitar and singing.

JS: Chuck Norris

UNCWSPORTS.COM: What is your biggest pet peeve and why?
JS: When people get in the fast lane and drive under the speed limit.

UNCWSPORTS.COM: What is something you are afraid of?
JS: Spiders. I hate those things

UNCWSPORTS.COM: What is an obstacle you had to overcome in your life?
JS: My grandfather's death.
