Williford Tabbed By CAA As Rookie of the Week

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW freshman Trey Williford was honored by the Coastal Athletic Association as the league's Rookie of the Week following another stellar outing in conference play last weekend.

Williford, who improved to 4-1 with the win, struck out a career-high nine as UNCW halted Campbell's nine-game conference winning streak with a 5-3 win on Friday. The lefthander allowed four base runners over four shutout innings of relief.

Over his last three outings, Williford has allowed a run on three hits, walked three, and fanned 14 in 11 innings of work. He's posted a 2.70 earned run average, and opponents are hitting a meager .229 against him.

In conference play, Williford has stepped it up with a 1.26 ERA in 14.1 innings, and he's struck out 20. Opponents are hitting just .114 against him.

The Seahawks visit North Carolina on Apr. 14 for a 6 p.m. start before returning to conference play this Friday with a 6 p.m. first pitch against visiting Hofstra.
