UNCW Rolls Into SBC Semifinals

Seahawks to play top-seeded Coastal Carolina on Saturday

FOLEY, Ala. – Needing a pair of wins to advance at the Sun Belt Conference Beach Volleyball Championship, the Seahawks answered the bell with wins over Mercer and Southern Miss to advance to the semifinals on Saturday.

With the wins, the Seahawks (14-22) advance to Saturday's semifinals and will face top-seeded Coastal Carolina at 11 a.m. EST.

After blanking Mercer, 5-0, to open the day's schedule, the Seahawks continued to click on all cylinders against third-seeded Southern Miss with a 4-1 win. USM grabbed a 1-0 lead with a straight-set win on court four. UNCW, however, took over and won the remaining four matches. Gabby LaPata and Sarah Thompson tied the duel on court two with a 21-18, 21-13 victory.

Gracie Sistrunk and Lyvia Trimp lifted UNCW to a 2-1 lead with a 21-19, 21-11 win at the top pairing, and Alise Barbour and Alivia Hamel clinched the duel on court three, 21-19, 23-21.

On court five, Keenan Engebretson and Traci Schrock earned the fourth and final point, going three sets and winning 15-11 in the third.

Against Mercer, the Seahawks posted wins on courts two, one, and three, in order, to clinch the match and move on to play Southern Miss.

The Seahawks are making their second appearance in the semifinals in as many seasons as a member of the Sun Belt Conference. In 2025, they reached the finals before falling to Georgia State.
