UNCW Falls Into Losers Bracket With 3-2 Setback

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Coastal Carolina snuck past UNCW, 3-2, with a three-set win on court one at the Sun Belt Conference Beach Volleyball Championship Tournament on Thursday in Foley, Ala.

The Seahawks (12-22) will play the winner of Mercer and ULM at 2:30 PM EST on Friday in an elimination duel.

CCU grabbed a 1-0 lead in the deciding match, but Gracie Sistrunk and Lyvia Trimp evened the match at 1-all with a 21-17 win. In the third set, CCU's Emma Kunaus and Frida Lyo got out to a quick start and finished off the duel with a 15-11 win in the tiebreaking set.

Earning wins for the Seahawks were Gabby LaPata and Sarah Thompson (21-19,21-15) on court two and Addie Marinack and Hannah Parkinson taking a three-setter (12-21, 23-21, 15-12) on court four.

In the opening round match against the College of Charleston, the Seahawks extended their winning streak against the Cougars to 19 with a 4-1 win. Marinack and Parkinson got the Seahawks rolling with a straight-set 21-12, 21-11 win on court four.

LaPata and Thompson, who both earned Second-Team All-SBC honors, pushed the lead to 2-0 on court two with a 21-15, 21-17 victory.

The dual was clinched on court one, as Sistrunk and Trimp, the SBC Pair of the Year, eased past CofC, 21-9, 21-9, for a 3-0 lead.
