Sandy Hawks Will Be The Four Seed At SBC Tournament

DELAND, Fla. – UNCW dropped both of its duals on Saturday to nationally-ranked South Carolina (4-1) and defending Sun Belt Conference champion Georgia State (3-2) at the DeLand Cup, hosted by Stetson.

The Seahawks, who closed out the regular season with an 11-21 record, will be the four seed in the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Championships in Foley, Ala. UNCW, which reached the finals of the tournament last season, opens its run on Apr. 23 against the College of Charleston.

UNCW's top pairing of Gracie Sistrunk and Lyvia Trimp won their matches in both sets to improve to 23-7 and will carry a 15-match winning streak into the SBC tournament. Sistrunk and Trimp won both in tiebreakers.

Against GSU, Gabby LaPata and Sarah Thompson earned a win at the second pairing, topping Danica Singleton and Michaela Jefferson, 16-21, 21-17, 15-13.

Sistrunk, who is already UNCW's winningest individual, stands at 99-34 entering the postseason.
