Beach Volleyball Splits Duels On Friday

HONOLULU, Hawaii – UNCW split a pair of duels against NCAA Division II members Chaminade (W, 5-0) and Concordia Irvine (L, 3-2) on Friday at the Heineken Queen's Cup.

With the split, the Seahawks stand at 3-7 entering Saturday's matches.

Against Chaminade, Gracie Sistrunk and Lyvia Trimp made quick work of their opponent on court one, winning in straight sets (21-9, 21-6). Traci Schrock and Alivia Hamel clinched the match on court four with a 21-9, 21-13 victory.

Concordia Irvine was able to take the duel, 3-2, with a win on court four. UNCW's Sarah Thompson and Sophie Puhala had rallied with a 23-21 win in the second set, but CIU's Rosie Cline and Jordan Vander Veen posted a 15-12 win in the third and duel-deciding set.

UNCW trailed CIU, 2-0, but was able to draw even with wins by Keenan Engebretson and Courtney Jensen on court five and Sistruck and Trimp on court one.

The Seahawks play host Hawaii and San Jose State on Saturday to close out the tournament.
