HONOLULU, Hawaii – UNCW forced its final duel of the day to a fifth match and a third set, but St. Mary's edged the Seahawks, 3-2, in beach volleyball action on Thursday at the Heineken Queens Cup.

The Seahawks, who dropped a 4-1 duel to Pepperdine earlier in the day, moved to 2-6 while the Gaels improved to 8-2.

A win on court two by Gabby LaPata and Hannah Parkinson, also in three sets, knotted the score at two-all. On court three, Traci Schrock and Alivia Hamel held narrow leads throughout the final set before coming up short, 17-15, to Bella Reyes and Clarissa Klein.

Lyvia Trimp and Gracie Sistrunk gave UNCW a 1-0 lead with a 21-12, 21-15 win on court one.

In the loss to Pepperdine, Sophie Puhala and Courtney Jensen gave UNCW it's only point with a 21-16, 21-11 win on court five.

UNCW continues play in the Heineken Queen's Cup on Friday with duels against Chaminade and Concordia Irvine.
