Beach Volleyball Wins Twice On Friday

CHARLESTON, S.C. – UNCW opened the South Carolina Derby with a pair of wins on Friday, blanking Erskine, 5-0, and edging Tampa, 3-2, at the Yard.

The Seahawks ran their record to 6-12 while Erskine slid to 7-9 and Tampa to 10-9.

Tampa gained the early lead with a win at the fourth pairing only to see Gabby LaPata and Hannah Parkinson even the scoring at the second pairing in three sets (21-16, 17-21, 17-15).

Sarah Thompson and Traci Shrock broke the 1-all deadlock with a 21-11, 21-18 win at the third pairing.

At the first pairing, Lyvia Trimp and Gracie Sistrunk clinched the win in two sets, 21-12, 21-19.

In the opening dual against Erskine, UNCW posted straight set wins at number one through three and added a pair of three-set victories on the final two courts.

The Seahawks conclude their tournament weekend on Saturday with a pair of duals against Coastal Carolina (11 a.m.) and the College of Charleston (5 p.m.).
