Hughes Repeats As Player of Week, Thornton Earns Pitcher Honors

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Following a 4-0 week, including a sweep of Coastal Athletic Association rival Elon, UNCW's Bromley Thornton and Mason Hughes were honored by the league as the Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively.

Thornton tossed a one-hit shutout in the series finale to move to 3-1 on the season. It was his second straight complete game outing this season. The junior righthander walked one and struck out four while lowering his earned run average to 1.91.

Hughes repeats as the league's Player of the Week after hitting .500 (7-14), scoring six runs, and driving in six. He collected three doubles and stole two bases. Hughes leads the league with a .442 batting average, a .556 on-base average, and is fourth in runs with 17.

The Seahawks host nationally-ranked NC State on Mar. 17 at 6 p.m.
