Baseball Preview: CAA Opening Series With Elon

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Conference play opens tonight with the Seahawks hosting South Division rival Elon at 6 p.m. The three-game series continues with a 4 p.m. start on Saturday and a 2 p.m. first-pitch on Sunday.

Both programs carry winning streaks into the series, with the Seahawks at four and the Phoenix at three, following a road win at nationally ranked NC State.

The Seahawks pasted Charleston Southern, 18-2, in a rule-ruled shortened contest earlier in the week. UNCW scored in five of its six turns at bat, including a season-high nine-run outburst in the fifth inning. Eleven straight Seahawks reached base before Charleston Southern recorded an out.

The Seahawks will send Connor Marshburn to the hill on Friday, followed by Cooper Allen and Bromley Thornton on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Sophomore Mason Hughes was recognized by the conference office earlier this week as the league's Co-Player of the Week. Hughes lifted the Seahawks in their series sweep at Jacksonville with a career-high four hits, including his first career homer, in an 8-3 Friday night win that set the tone for the series.
