Women's Track & Field Wins the Collegiate Challenge

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – UNCW's women's track program won the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge, and the men finished third on Saturday.

The meet featured five event wins for Seahawk athletes and four new entries into the program's all-time top times and marks.

The women's 4x400 relay of Carmealla Marino, Leila Ortiz, Makaila Williamson, and Ella Jane Osada fashioned a time of 3:15.36.

Cameron Wright, a senior, took gold in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.99 seconds.

Lucas Smith, as a sophomore, added a gold with a run of 47.77 in the 400 meters.

Ava Jayaraman, a freshman, produced a toss of 13.67 meters to win the Shot Put.

Ivan Poag, another senior, continued his strong career performances in the Triple Jump and won the event with a leap of 14.49 meters.

Climbing into the top-times/marks list were Kendall Ross, who did so in both the Shot Put (7th, 41.5 1/4) and the Hammer (10th, 155-8).

Graham Cannon, a freshman, used a toss of 156-5 to move into sixth on the all-time discus list.

Rounding out the impressive weekend was the 4x200 Relay of Sadie Buchanan, Avery Rueckert, Gabrielle Knight, and Williamson. The quarter combined for a time of 1:37.86, good for second all-time.

Next up for UNCW is the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational, which is also being held in Myrtle Beach, on Mar. 19-20.
