Freshmen DMR Record Falls At Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Distance Medley Relay of Demi Nicholas, Grace Guilford, Olivia Priddy and Claire Carmichael set a program freshman record with a time of 12:23.89 to highlight UNCW's final outing before the Coastal Athletic Association championships later this month.

"The women's DMR was a complete relay today," said Head Coach Jeff Klaves. "Two weeks ago, they ran 12:38 and had a big-time team improvement, lowering their total time to 12:23. They ran with no fear and were competitive through the line with each relay pass."

Freshman Ava Jayaraman fashioned a toss of 42-11.75 feet in the Shot Put to move into third on UNCW's all-time list.

"Ava continues to trust her throw," said Klaves. "Today's improvement was a testament to her sticking to her plan. Her first two attempts were fouls, but she stepped into the circle with confidence and executed her plan on attempt #3 to throw an all-time best to improve her freshman record she set earlier this season."

In the 300 meters, Avery Rueckert clocked in with a time of 41.14 seconds to jump into the program's top-10 at eighth.
"Avery had two complete races for the team today. We believe that consistency breeds PR's and when you can come away with two of them on the same day, it speaks to Avery's development this indoor season."

UNCW concludes its indoor season on Feb. 22-24, at the Coastal Athletic Association Championships in Boston, Mass.
