Two Seahawks earned CAA weekly honors

Wasilewski, Murphy Collect CAA Honors

WILMINGTON, N.C. – After sweeping Coastal Athletic Association rival Northeastern, UNCW's Nadia Wasilewski and Elaina Murphy were named the league's Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

Wasilewski, a transfer from Wichita State, had 15 kills on Saturday and has had at least 14 kills in each of her last three outings. For the weekend, the junior totaled 29 kills (3.63 per set) and hit .328 in 67 attacks. This season she has crafted nine matches with double-digit kills. Wasilewski posted a career-high four aces in each match against Northeastern and led UNCW with 38.5 points on the weekend.

Murphy, a freshman from Mount Airy, Maryland, recorded 25 kills and hit .373 in 51 swings. Defensively, she crafted double-doubles in both matches with 10 digs in back-to-back contests. This season, Murphy is averaging 2.02 kills and 1.89 digs per set.

Wasilewski is UNCW's first CAA Player of the Week since Maddy Kline on Sept. 10, 2018, and Murphy is UNCW's second Rookie of the Week this season, joining Addi Vaughn, who claimed the honor on Sept. 6.

The Seahawks host Hofstra on Friday at 6 p.m. in a CAA matchup. Friday will be the first day of an annual food drive for Hawk's Harvest, which benefits UNCW's on-campus food pantry for enrolled students experiencing food insecurity. The volleyball and swimming and diving programs are accepting donations beginning this weekend and through Oct. 14's volleyball match with Coastal Carolina.
