Volleyhawks Roll To Series Sweep Of Northeastern

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Behind a combined 29 kills from Nadia Wasilewski and Elaina Murphy, UNCW finished a Coastal Athletic Association series sweep of visiting Northeastern with a 3-1 (25-19, 16-25, 25-18, 25-16) victory on Saturday at Hanover Hall.

With the sweep, the Seahawks evened their season record at 8-8 and improved to 3-1 in the league. The Huskies, however, dropped to 4-10 and 2-4 in the CAA. It was UNCW's first sweep of the Huskies since the 2015 season.

Wasilewski held match-high honors with 15 kills and posted a .351 hitting average while Murphy matched her career-high of 14 kills for the third time this season. She committed a single hitting error and had a .481 hitting average. Murphy also fashioned her second straight double-double by adding 10 digs.

In the opening set, Wasilewski and Murphy got off to hot starts with four kills apiece in a 25-19 victory.

The Huskies rallied in the second set behind Callaway's four kills for a 25-16 victory.

UNCW gained a 2-1 lead with an impressive 25-18 win in the third set and ended the match with a 25-16 fourth-set victory. Wasilewski led the way with five kills, and Lilly Sullivan came off the bench to chip in four kills.

Gaby Zovko also compiled a double-double with 40 assists and 12 digs. Annie Harney keyed the Seahawks defensively with a career-best 18 digs. Lily Goyer added six kills and a season-high five blocks for the Seahawks.

UNCW outhit the Huskies, .291-.190, and held narrow advantages in digs, 54-52, and blocks, 7-6.

At 3-1 in the league, the Seahawks are off to their best start since going 5-0 in 2023.

Abbie Callaway paced NU with10 kills.

The Seahawks continue their homestand on Oct. 9, when they host conference-leading Hofstra at 6 p.m.
