BUIES CREEK, N.C. – UNCW battled Campbell Friday night in its Coastal Athletic Association opener before falling to the Camels, 3-1 (25-13, 21-25, 25-12, 25-15), at Gore Arena.
Nadia Wasilewski led the Seahawks (5-8, 0-1) offensively with nine kills while hitting .471, while Elaina Murphy added seven kills and Courtney Graham finished with six. Gaby Zovko recorded a team-high 23 assists, and Anna Harney led the team with 10 digs on the night.
After dropping the opening set, UNCW responded with its strongest offensive performance of the night in the second. The Seahawks recorded 14 kills on 31 attacks and hit .387 as a team, overcoming a 10-9 deficit. UNCW maintained its advantage down the stretch, taking the set, 25-21, to even the match at one set apiece.
UNCW moved to within 14-12 in the fourth set, but Campbell (5-7, 1-0) used a 5-0 run to take control on its way to a 25-15 match-clinching win.
The Seahawks finished the night with 32 kills, 37 digs and 10 total team blocks. UNCW also recorded three service aces, including two from Addi Vaughn.
The Seahawks return to Gore Arena on Saturday at 2 p.m. to close out the series against Campbell.Â
