Seahawks Power Past Camels In CAA Play

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Nadia Wasilewski and Elaina Murphy matched their career highs with 16 and 14 kills, respectively, as UNCW dumped Campbell in four sets (25-23, 25-22, 22-25, 25-22) in Coastal Athletic Association volleyball action on Saturday at Gore Arena.

The Seahawks evened their conference record at 1-1 and improved to 6-8 overall. The win was UNCW's first true road win since a sweep of the Camels on Nov. 2, 2024. Campbell fell to 5-8 and 1-1 with the home loss.

Joining Wasilewski, who crafted a double-double with a career-high 11 digs, and Murphy in double-digit kills was Courtney Graham with 10, and she posted a team-high-tying six blocks. Gaby Zovko, meanwhile, totaled six blocks and a match-high 37 assists.

In her starting debut for UNCW, Lora Cole chipped in a career-high-tying five blocks as the Seahawks held an 11-9 advantage at the net.

For the Camels, Leah Freesemann and Emma McCartney both finished with a match-high 17 kills. Freesemann finished with a .421 hitting average, committing just one error in 38 attacks.

In the opening set, the teams combined to tie the game on 16 occasions before the Seahawks closed out the set with a 4-1 run.

The Seahawks trailed 15-10 in the second set, before rattling off a 9-1 run for a 19-16 lead they wouldn't relinquish.

The Camels averted a sweep in the third set with a 4-0 run that gave them a 23-19 lead.

In the fourth set, Wasilewski collected five kills, and Sam Vanda added two aces as UNCW held Campbell at bay over the final nine points of the set.

The Seahawks host Northeastern on Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. in their conference home opener.
