New Era In UNCW Athletics Ushered In

WILMINGTON, N.C. – With the House Settlement approved by Judge Claudia Wilken in June 2025, the OneSeahawk collective has announced it will hand off operations to the UNCW Athletics Department. The approval of this settlement allows schools to directly share revenue with student-athletes. Also included in the settlement are team roster caps and a required disclosure of third-party NIL activities above $600 in the NIL Clearinghouse.

OneSeahawk served as the primary outlet for UNCW's NIL efforts since the 2022-23 academic year, helping the Athletics Department gain footing and thrive during a changing time in collegiate athletics. Founded by former Seahawk student-athletes Brett Blizzard and Marshall Cooper, OneSeahawk became visible in the Wilmington community and would grow in opportunities to help the department.

The organization grew in 2023-24, when Jason Lanier and Brett Keeler joined in response to the continued growth of the NIL marketplace.
"We'd like to thank Brett, Marshall, Brett and Jason for stepping up and helping fill a void that quickly appeared with the passing of NIL legislation," said UNCW Director of Athletics Michael Oblinger. "They're now passing the torch to our department, and we look forward to building upon the foundation they set."

With the recent passage by the House Committee in July, NIL efforts will continue, and revenue-sharing will now join the options that can be used to assist student-athletes.

"Our supporters have been tremendous, and we thank them for their passion in helping our student-athletes and the department. The new legislation allows them to support in ways they feel they can make the biggest impact. Season tickets, donations, planned gifts and NIL have stepped to the forefront and we're excited about our future!"

With the passing of the House Settlement, the efforts that the OneSeahawk Collective started will continue under the Seahawk Club. Donors, fans and alumni can still positively impact the student-athlete experience by giving to sports-specific support funds. These funds address program priorities (including but not limited to) student-athlete revenue sharing.
