WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW women's basketball senior McCall King was named the Coastal Athletic Association's representative for the NCAA Women's Basketball Student-Athlete Engagement Working Group.
Established in 2020, the group was formed in collaboration with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and was the first of its kind at the NCAA level.
"Members consist of student-athletes from all 32 conferences who are nominated through the WBCA NCAA Division I Conference Captains program that includes a head coach or "captain" in each conference with whom the WBCA communicates regularly on important issues." (NCAA Media Center).
King is entering her fourth season with the Seahawks and has played in 88 games during her career, including all 32 last season. King is a business administration major with a concentration in management and leadership. She currently has a grade-point average of 3.844.
"McCall King has been a pillar of our program for the last few years," head coach Nicole Woods said. "This isn't her first opportunity to represent UNCW on a larger scale. She is built for these moments and will be a great ambassador for our programs! I can't think of anyone better to represent the CAA!"
Last season, at the Final Four in Tampa, Florida, student-athletes explored professional development opportunities, built relationships, participated in panel discussions, engaged in conversations with NCAA leaders, and other industry professionals.
"McCall being nominated as the CAA representative for the NCAA Women's Basketball Student-Athlete Engagement Working Group is not a shock to me. It is a true testament to her leadership, insight, and unwavering commitment to the student-athlete experience," said Maggie Tabone, the academic coordinator for UNCW women's basketball.
"In an ever-changing world of college athletics, McCall has embraced her student-athlete experience and invested in the culture here at UNCW. She leads with integrity and always strives to set a standard of excellence to inspire those around her. It has been a true honor to watch McCall grow since her freshman year, and I know her voice will be a powerful asset in shaping the future of the game."
