WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW women's basketball head coach Nicole Woods adds international freshman Alva Hägerström to the 2026-27 roster.
 
Hägerström comes to Wilmington as a 5-foot-6 guard from Ängelholm, Sweden. She competed for Sweden's youth national teams at the U15, U16 and U20 levels and was named to the Middle Europe League All-Star Team in consecutive seasons.
 
During the 2025-26 season, Hägerström served as team captain and helped lead her squad to a fourth-place finish at the Swedish U19 Championship. She scored 27 points in the tournament semifinals and added 24 points and eight assists in the Middle Europe League semifinal.
 
Hägerström earned Player of the Game honors in five of six contests at the 2026 Scania Cup, an unofficial Nordic championship tournament for club teams. She also helped her team capture the 2023-24 Swedish U17 Championship.
 

Most recently, Hägerström was selected to the Swedish National Team for the U20 A Women's European Championship, scheduled for July 2026.
