WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW women's basketball head coach Nicole Woods has announced the addition of Jama Sharp as an assistant coach for the 2026-27 season.
Sharp joins the Seahawks after serving as head coach at the University of Indianapolis for the past two seasons. Before that, she spent five seasons on the coaching staff at her alma mater, Stetson University.
The addition reunites Sharp with Woods, who coached Sharp at Stetson from 2011-13 during her collegiate playing career.
"This is a full-circle moment having one of my former players on staff," Woods said. "Jama is one of the smartest, toughest, hardworking players I ever coached. I've seen her growth as a player and now as a coach. She hails from Indiana and brings an offensive mind to our program. She will quickly become a fan favorite!"
Sharp brings more than a decade of collegiate coaching and basketball operations experience to Wilmington. During her coaching career, she has worked in recruiting, player development, scouting and game preparation while helping guide programs to postseason success.
At Stetson, Sharp played a key role in recruiting, guard development and offensive and defensive game planning while helping the Hatters reach multiple postseason appearances. She was named the program's Assistant Coach of the Year in 2022 and earned her MBA during her tenure.
Before returning to Stetson, Sharp gained experience at Virginia, Texas and Florida, where she held roles in scouting, video coordination, recruiting operations and player development.
As a student-athlete at Stetson, Sharp was a three-time team captain, a two-time Atlantic Sun All-Conference selection and the university's 2015 Female Athlete of the Year. She scored more than 1,200 career points and ranks among the program's all-time leaders in assists and steals.
Sharp was inducted into both the Stetson Athletics Hall of Fame and the Mooresville High School Hall of Fame in 2022.
