Sistrunk, Trimp Headline SBC Honors For UNCW

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW's pairing of Gracie Sistrunk and Lyvia Trimp was named Pair of the Year by the Sun Belt Conference coaches and led an impressive awards haul for the Seahawks the league announced on Wednesday.

Sistrunk and Trimp were joined by the pairing of Gabby LaPata and Sarah Thompson as First Team All-Sun Belt and Annika Thompson was recognized as the league's Newcomer of the Year.

Sistrunk and Trimp carry an impressive 24-1 record into this week's Sun Belt Conference Championship and have won their last 19 outings. The duo is ranked 50th nationally, among all pairings, and the 24 wins are tied for the third most by a pairing in program history. Sistrunk and Trimpo posted wins over nationally-ranked Georgia State and North Florida and posted a 13-0 record against conference opponents.

LaPata and Thompson played all 25 duals at the top pairing and forged a record of 19-6. Against conference rivals, the pairing produced a 10-3 record. Their longest winning streak this season was 12 matches.

Annika Thompson, meanwhile, fashioned a 17-8 record in her first season playing beach volleyball. The graduate student teamed with Traci Schrock to go 16-6 at the third pairing this season.

The program has produced the last two Pairings of the Year with Sistrunk and Trimp joining 2024 honorees LaPata and Sadie Sharkey. LaPata earned all-conference honors for a third consecutive season.

The Seahawks open the SBC Championship tournament on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. ET, against Southern Miss. The dual will be streamed on ESPN+.
