UNCW Edged By No. 18 Georgia State, 3-2

FOLEY, Ala. – UNCW took nationally-ranked Georgia State to the brink before falling, 3-2, to close out the Sun Belt Conference Mid-Year Duals on Saturday at the Foley Beach Volleyball Complex.

The Seahawks, who went 2-2 at the duals, ran their record to 14-5 overall and 8-2 against SBC opponents. The 18th-ranked Panthers pushed their record to 11-13. Earlier in the day, UNCW improved to 5-0 against the College of Charleson this season with a 5-0 white-washing.

GSU and UNCW split the first two matches of the dual with Tamsie Black and Sophia Puhala evening it at 1-all with a 21-19, 21-17 win at the fifth pairing.

Down 2-1, Lyvia Trimp and Gracie Sistrunk forced the deciding point to go the last pairing with a 15-9 win in the third set at the second pairing.

Ayla Johnson and Alilsa Vuorinen edged UNCW's Gabby LaPata and Sarah Thompson, 15-13, in the third set to clinch the dual.

Against CofC, the Seahawks posted straight-set wins at all five pairings.

Trimp and Sistrunk lead the Seahawks with an 18-1 record after posting a 4-0 mark on the weekend. Their winning streak stands at 13 straight.

The Seahawks return to action in Conway, S.C., on Mar. 4-5 for the Chanticleer Challenge.
