Sandy Hawks Roll On Sunday

COLUMBIA, S.C. – UNCW closed out the Carolina Challenge on Sunday with a pair of 4-1 wins over Sun Belt Conference rivals Coastal Carolina and the College of Charleston at Wheeler Beach.

The Seahawks ran their record to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in the conference. Coastal fell to 8-9 while CofC dipped to 4-8.

Against Coastal, the Seahawks fell behind with a loss on court four before capturing the next four matches. Annika Thompson and Traci Schrock, who have won their last six outings, delivered the victory with a three-set win on court three, taking the deicing set, 15-13.

In the final match of the weekend, Tamsie Black and Sophia Puhala clinched the win for UNCW with another three-set victory coming on court five, 15-10 in the third set.

UNCW's top pairing of Gabby LaPata and Sarah Thompson joined Schrock and Annika Thompson with a perfect record of 4-0 during the tournament.

Next for the Seahawks is the Bears Beach Bash, hosted by Mercer, on Mar. 21-22.
