MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – UNCW track and field claimed seven event wins at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge, including a record-setting performance in the women's 4x200-meter relay from Avery Rueckert, Nasiah Ferguson, Ella Jane Osada and Janiyah Fields.
During the two-day event at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium, the men's team finished runner-up out of 30 teams with 89 points behind Appalachian State. The women's team set six new program top 10s, finishing in fifth out of 31 teams with 80 points. Both programs combined for 20 top-five and 33 top-10 finishes.
In the relay victory, Rueckert, Ferguson, Osada and Fields ran 1 minutes, 37.73 seconds, breaking the program's near 12-year record of 1:38.00 held by Maleena Reid, Sarah Whitman, Hailey Blackburn and Krista Mangum.
The Seahawks posted a 1-2-3 finish in the women's pole vault "A" flight. Lakelyn Bass, who set the program record of 4.05 meters at the Seahawk Invitational on March 8, claimed first place, clearing 3.75m. Bailey Tart finished second with an identical vault of 3.75m and Carly Gordinier joined the program's top 10 list, vaulting her collegiate-best of 3.60m to post the ninth-best pole vault in program history.
Wren Usiatynski finished first for UNCW in the women's pole vault "B" flight with her collegiate best of 3.45 meters.
Brylee Montanari followed up her win at the Seahawk Invitational last weekend in the 100 hurdles with another victory and her collegiate best time of 14.14, surpassing her previous time of 14.26 for the sixth-best performance in program history.
Senior Nasiah Ferguson dominated in the women's 400m with her best performance of 55.68 to move into fourth on the program's all-time list. Ferguson was the only runner out of 70 to post a sub-56-second mark in the event.
Bailey Willard set her new collegiate best in the discus, throwing 43.62m for the sixth-best discus result in program history.
On the men's side, Cameron Wright claimed an event win for UNCW in the 110 hurdles, running 14.28. Wright improved on his time at the Seahawk Invitational a week ago by over a second.
The men's 4x400m relay team of Justin Bryant, Braxton Ware, Lucas Smith and Dalton Zimmerman won the final race of the event with a time of 3:17.43.
The Seahawks will remain in Myrtle Beach for the three-day Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium, beginning on March 20.
