LaPata, Thompson Clinch Win Versus Dolphins

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Gabby LaPata and Sarah Thompson posted a three-set win at the top pairing on Saturday to clinch a 3-2 win over Jacksonville at the Payne Sand Volleyball Courts.

The Seahawks fell to South Carolina, 4-1, in the first match of the day with Gracie Sistrunk and Lyvia Trimp posting UNCW's lone win. The duo clinched a three-set tilt with a 15-13 win at the second pairing.

Against JU, Sistrunk and Trimp cruised to a straight-set win at the second pairing and UNCW went up 2-0 following a three-set victory on court three by Traci Schrock and Annika Thompson.

The Dolphins cut their deficit in half with a win on court five, but LaPata and Thompson knocked off Emily Kubicsko and Claire Mrukowski, 15-11 in the third set.

The Seahawks conclude their opening weekend on Sunday with matches against South Florida (8 a.m.) and North Florida (noon).
