Burleson Sets Vault Records, Montanari Wins Hurdles

LYNCHBURG, Va. – UNCW combined for 19 top-10 finishes, including an event win by Brylee Montanari in the 60-meter hurdles, at the Liberty Kickoff on Friday at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.

"This weekend was all about our winner learn mentality," said Head Coach Jeff Klaves. "We wanted to find those daily wins that we bring to practice and translate them right to the meet, right out the gate. The thing that we're leaving with is that some of the things that are working on we must keep, like learning how to execute in the moment.

Montanari posted a winning time of 8.65 seconds tied her for second all-time at UNCW with Anna Raynor, who recorded the same time during the winter of 2005.

On Thursday, freshman Abby Burleson set a program and freshman record with a height of 12-9 1/4 feet in the Pole Vault to finish second. The previous standard of 12-8 1/4 was set by Annie Powell at the Penn State Challenge on Feb. 5, 2011.

Myla Watson added a second-place showing in the Long Jump with a distance of 17-4 1/4.

"We're excited with the mix of experience on the roster and looking forward to seeing everyone continue to get better."

The Seahawks return to action on Jan. 16-17 at the Dick Taylor Carolina Challenge in Chapel Hill, N.C.
