Sistrunk, LaPata Conclude AVCA Fall Beach Nationals

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – UNCW's Gracie Sistrunk and Gabby LaPata closed out the fall season on Sunday after posting a 2-3 record at the AVCA Fall Beach Nationals in Huntsville, Ala.

After opening with a three-set loss to Boise State's Ava Anderson and Addison Wolden (15-21, 21-16, 11-15), Sistrunk and LaPata knocked off Hayden Garnett and Mredith Mrukowski, 21-18, 21-18, to advance to the next round.

Sistrunk and LaPata continued their strong play with a dominant win (21-14, 21-12) over Florida State's Jessica Horwath and Elena Lam.

The winning streak was halted, though, in the next match as South Carolina's Jolie Crawford and Virginia Blair Trost overcame a first-set loss to win the match, 2-1 (11-21, 21-14, 15-12).

UNCW's tournament appearance came to an end on Sunday with a tough 3-2 loss to Madeline Walker and Ashlyn Ziliken of Arizona (18-21, 19-21).
