Beach Volleyball Splits SBC Duals

Seahawks face winner of SFA/CofC on Friday at 1 p.m. EST

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – UNCW opened its appearance at the Sun Belt Conference Championship on Thursday with a 4-1 win over Louisiana Monroe, but fell to Coastal Carolina, 3-2, in its second dual of the afternoon at the Hunt Sand Volleyball Complex.

The Seahawks will next face the winner of the Stephen F. Austin/Col. of Charleston dual on Friday at 1 p.m. EST., in an elimination dual.

The pairing of Ellie Bucci and Gracie Sistrunk clinched the ULM match when they topped Eden Anderson and Kate Taylor on court three 19-21, 21-13, 15-8.

ULM's Kaitlyn Beck and Claire Williamson swept UNCW on court two to take a 1-0 advantage. However, Sarah Thompson and Bri Haggerty tied things up with a straight-set win on court four.

Gabby LaPata and Sadie Sharkey, the Sun Belt Conference Pair of the Year, lifted UNCW to a 2-1 lead with a three-set win over Tamsie Black and Kaylie Beck, winning the third set, 15-11.

With the match secured, Jadyn Barry and Traci Schrock rebounded from a second-set loss to win the final point, 15-11, in set three.

Against Coastal Carolina, who is the three-seed, Sharkey and LaPata tied the dual 1-all with another win on court one, 21-17, 21-19.

The Chanticleers, however, would take the lead on court five and saw Denisse Morgenstern and Madie Lichty knock off Haggerty and Thompson, 24-22, 21-16, to win the match.
