UNCW Continues Best Start In Program History

The Sandy Hawks go 4-1 on West Coast

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – UNCW won 2-of-3 duals on Saturday with wins over Sacramento State and Cal State Bakersfield to close out its West Coast trip with a 4-1 record.

The Seahawks improved to a program-best 9-2 record to open the season with four victories.

On Saturday, Ellie Bucci moved into a tie with beach volleyball alum Ashley Thompson for career wins with 56 while Bri Haggerty moved into third with 55 career wins.

In a 5-0 shutout of Sacramento State, Haggerty and Gracie Sistrunk clinched the dual with a win at the third position, 21-14, 21-11.

In the tournament finale, a 3-2 win over host Cal State Bakersfield, Gabby LaPata and Sadie Sharkey clinched the dual with a 21-16, 21-7 victory at the number position.

The Seahawks return to the East Coast next weekend for the Stetson Spring Invitational and will open the weekend on Mar. 15 against host and nationally-ranked Stetson.
