Beach Volleyball Upended By Coastal, 4-1

CONWAY, S.C. – UNCW saw its four-dual winning streak come to an end on Saturday with a 4-1 loss to Coastal Carolina at the CCU Beach Volleyball Complex.

UNCW blanked Division II Erskine, 5-0, earlier in the day and saw its record move to 14-7 with the split of the day's action. Coastal Carolina, meanwhile, raised its record to 18-6 following the Sun Belt Conference win against the Seahawks.

The Chanticleers built a 2-0 lead early, winning at the fourth and fifth pairings.

Lyvia Trimp and Maddy Folks cut the score to 2-1 with a 21-13, 21-18 win at the second pairing over CCU's Julia Blazek and Emma Plutnicki.
Coastal, however, clinched the dual at the top pairing with Martine Kragholm and Sarah Riedell edging Gabby LaPata and Sadie Sharkey, 21-18, 21-19.

Against Erskine, the Seahawks eased past the Flying Fleet, winning all five matches in two sets and allowing more than 13 points only once in a set.

Sarah Thompson and Ellie Bucci clinched the match at the third pairing. The duo leads the program with 16 wins this season.

The Seahawks head to Columbia, S.C., next weekend for the second time this season when they compete in the Palmetto Invitational beginning on Apr. 6 at 11 a.m. against host South Carolina.
