Beach Volleyball Tops Southern Miss, 4-1

Seahawks split two SBC duals in Huntsville, Ala.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – UNCW split a pair of Sun Belt Conference beach volleyball duals on Friday at the John Hunt Beach Volleyball Complex.

UNCW pushed its record to 11-6 overall and 6-1 against SBC opponents with the split.

In its win over Southern Miss, the Seahawks dropped the match at the fifth position but rallied with wins on the other four courts.

Gabby LaPata and Sadie Sharkey posted a 21-11, 21-18 win at the top of the lineup over Aleksandra Chudzik and Carmen Sanchez Delgado. Maddy Folks and Lyvia Trimp sealed the win at the second position, 21-17 and 21-16.

Georgia State, which is ranked 15th nationally, swept the Seahawks, but two matches went the distance. Folks and Trimp dropped their third set, 15-10, and Bri Haggerty and Gracie Sistrunk came up short, 15-11, in the third.

The Seahawks wrap up their visit to Huntsville on Sunday with duals against Stephen F. Austin and Louisiana Monroe at 9:00 a.m. and 12:45 p.m., respectively.
