UNCW Falls Into Elimination Bracket With Loss To ULM

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – UNCW dropped its Sun Belt Conference tournament to Louisiana Monroe, 3-1, and dropped into the elimination bracket on Thursday at John Hunt Sand Volleyball Complex.

ULM improved to 31-2 on the season while the Seahawks slid to 15-13.

UNCW opened the match with a win at the third pairing as Ellie Bucci and Ashley Thompson cruised in straight sets, 21-10 and 21-17.

The Warhawks, however, rebounded with wins at the second and fifth pairings for a 2-1 lead.

The first and fourth pairings went to three sets with ULM sealing the win with a 15-10 win in the third set.

The first pairing of UNCW's Gabby LaPata and Sadie Sharkey and ULM's Julia Blazek and Rylin Adams was tied at one-all and 10-all in the third set, but the match wasn't completed.

Thursday's matches were played until there was a decision due to hazardous weather expected in the region later in the day.

The Seahawks dropped to the elimination bracket with the setback and will take on eighth-seeded Stephen F. Austin at 10 a.m. on Friday. The match will be streamed on the ESPN+ platform.
