Beach Volleyball Carries Winning Streak Into SBC Tournament

UNCW sweeps both Eastern Kentucky and Mercer on Saturday

MACON, Ga. – UNCW closed out the final weekend of the regular season with back-to-back 5-0 sweeps of Eastern Kentucky and Mercer on Saturday at the Bears Beach Volleyball Complex.

With the sweep on Saturday, the Seahawks ran their winning streak to five and saw their record go to 15-12 overall and 3-7 against Sun Belt Conference opponents.

Kaley McLaughlin and Maddy Folks were the clinching pair against Eastern Kentucky, taking the decision by the scores of 19-21, 21-15 and 15-7.

UNCW posted straight-set sweeps at the top three pairings.

In the day's finale against host Mercer, Jadyn Barry and Sarah Thompson were the deciding point at the fourth pairing. The duo won in three sets including a 15-12 win in the third set.

The pairing of Ashley Thompson and Bri Haggerty improved to 18-4 this spring and became the program's highest-winning pair in a season. Sadie Sharkey and Gabby LaPata concluded the regular season with a 16-11 mark, ranking second on the winning pairs list.

The Seahawks return to the courts at the Sun Belt Conference Championship on Apr. 27-29 in Gulf Shores, Ala.
