Thompson Sets Career Win Mark In UNCW Sweep

MACON, Ga. – UNCW senior Ashley Thompson became the program's all-time leader in wins on Friday as the Seahawks knocked off both Mercer and North Alabama in beach volleyball action at the Bears Beach Volleyball Complex.

The Seahawks improved to 13-12 with the two-dual sweep while Mercer dropped to 10-22 and UNA to 16-14.

With two wins on Friday, Thompson now has 52 victories on her record. The previous mark was 50.

UNCW blanked Sun Bet Conference rival Mercer, 5-0, in its first dual of the day. Thompson and Bri Haggerty made quick work of the Bears at the second pairing with a 21-16, 21-14 win. The win moved Thompson to the top of the UNCW wins list with 51.

Ellie Bucci and Livia Trimp clinched the win for UNCW with a 21-13, 21-13 win at the third pairing.

Against UNA, Jadyn Barry and Sarah Thompson broke a 1-all deadlock with a 21-12, 21-17 win at the fourth pairing. Thompson and Haggerty clinched the match at the second pairing (21-14, 21-17).

The Seahawks close out the tournament and the regular season with Eastern Kentucky and Mercer at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
