Baseball Preview: At NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. – UNCW continues a six-game roadswing on Tuesday when it closes out a home-and-home series with NC State with a 6 p.m. start at Doak Field.

Tuesday's game will be streamed on ACCNX (on ESPN+) and will be broadcasted in Wilmington, and on the web, by WMFD ESPN Radio Wilmington (99.9 FM/ESPNWilmington.com).

This stretch of games is against three programs ranked in the top 30 of the RPI and began with a doubleheader split last weekend at Elon. The Seahawks visit #27 TCU this weekend for a three-game series against the Horned Frogs, who are tied with Oklahoma State for second in the Big 12 standings.

The Elon series was reduced to two games following postponements on the first two days of the key Colonial Athletic Association series between the top two teams in the standings. The Phoenix held off UNCW in the opener, 3-1, but the Seahawks rallied in the nightcap with a three-run eighth inning in a 7-6 win. Elon and UNCW remained in first and second place, respectively, in the conference standings.

In game two, Dillon Lifrieri belted a two-run homer in that eighth inning that gave the Seahawks a 6-5 lead. John Newton pushed that lead to 7-5 with a solo shot later in the inning.

The Seahawks and Wolfpack opened their annual home-and-home series on Mar. 21 as NC State plated three runs in the top of the 10th inning for an 11-8 win at Brooks Field.
