Beach Volleyball Sees Streak Halted At Four Straight

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – UNCW saw its four-dual winning streak snapped with a 4-1 loss to Sun Belt Conference rival on Saturday as the Seahawks wrapped up their weekend at the Beach Bash.

The Seahawks (9-6) split their two duals with the College of Charleston during the double round robin and swept Erskine, 5-0, and moved to 4-0 against the Flying Fleet this season.

In the day's opener, the Seahawks made quick work of the Flying Fleet with straight-set wins in all five pairings.

Charleston earned a split of its duals with the Seahawks in the final match of the weekend. UNCW's top pairing of Gabby LaPata and Sadie Sharkey saw its nine-match winning streak halted with a 21-18, 21-15 setback to CofC's Kyra Thompson and Gabi Bailey.

Bri Haggerty and Ashley Thompson earned UNCW's only win of the dual, taking the third pairing in three sets. The duo now has a five-match winning streak and has won nine of its last 10 outings.

The Seahawks host their own tournament next weekend, Apr. 1-2, at Capt'n Bill's Backyard Bar and Grill. UNCW opens with Charleston on Saturday at 9 a.m. Rounding out the tournament field are Coastal Carolina and Jacksonville.
