Beach Volleyball Splits Two Duals

CONWAY, S.C. – UNCW was edged, 3-2, by Sun Belt Conference rival Coastal Carolina on Wednesday at the CCU Beach Volleyball Complex before rebounding with a 5-0 shutout of Erskine to gain a split of a pair of duals.

The Seahawks saw their winning streak halted at four with the loss to the Chanticleers but raised their record to 6-5 with the win over the Flying Fleet.

Against Coastal, the teams split the matches at the fourth and fifth pairings with Jadyn Barry and Kaley McLaughlin winning 21-18, and 22-20 at the fifth spot.

The third and fourth pairings were also split as Gabby LaPata and Sadie Sharkey, the reigning Sun Belt Pair of the Week, topped Sarah Riedell and Martine Kragholm, 24-22 and 23-21, to even the dual at 2-all.

In the deciding match, Ellie Bucci and Lyvia Trimp forced a third set with a 25-23 win, but CCU's Sarlota Svobodova and Madie Lichty prevailed, 15-13, to win the dual for the Chants, who moved to 12-6.

In the nightcap, the Seahawks cruised to a shutout win over the Flying Fleet with all matches being decided in straight sets.

The Seahawks return to action Friday when they'll face Erskine for a second time this week, as well as the College of Charleston, which will host the double round-robin this weekend.
