Hobbs Wins 5,000 Meters at High Point Meet

HIGH POINT, North Carolina – Junior Kendall Hobbs raced to a first place finish in the Women's 5,000 Meters as UNCW track and field student-athletes completed the first day of the Bill Webb Combined/Bob Davidson Memorial on Friday at High Point's Vert Stadium.
 
A total of 30 men's teams and 25 women's teams are competing in the two-day meet.
 
Hobbs, who picked up her third event win of the young season, clocked a personal best 17:39.05 over the 5,000 Meters to finish ahead of High Point's Anna Ritter at 17:40.60.
 
In other action, Seahawk freshman Miles Higgins continued his impressive start to the outdoor campaign. He finished second in the Men's Javelin with a personal-best toss of 214-1, trailing only North Carolina's Roman Mitchell (222-8). Sophomore Ryan DeBarber came in fifth with a toss of 187-4.
 
After four events in the women's heptathlon, freshman Brylee Montanari of UNCW stands fourth overall with 2,333 points. Another newcomer, Riley Gibbons, totaled 2,199 points for sixth place.
 
The meet continues on Saturday as 35 more Seahawks compete in several events throughout the day, beginning with the throwing events at 11 a.m. and the running events at noon.
 
Following this weekend's meet, several Seahawks will compete in next week's Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State.
