WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Freshman
Ryan Greener's goal in the 67th minute was the difference in UNCW's 1-0 victory over Mercer in a men's soccer exhibition at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Seahawks, who have now won six of their last seven home preseason matches, played their second of three scrimmages as they prepare for the 2022 regular season. The Bears wrap up their exhibition season on Saturday at Campbell.
Greener was assisted on the eventual game-winning goal by fellow freshman
Caleb Powell.
The two teams played to a scoreless draw in the first half. The Bears threatened with a penalty kick with 7:40 to go before intermission, but UNCW goalkeeper
Gabriel Perrotta blocked the shot.
UNCW's final dress rehearsal before the regular season happens on Saturday against Old Dominion at 6 p.m. The Monarchs men's soccer program competed in the Colonial Athletic Association from 1991-2012.
