Acevedo's Brace Propels Seahawks to Victory

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Junior Christian Acevedo's second career brace propelled the UNCW men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over St. John's in Tuesday night non-conference action before 1,265 fans at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

The Seahawks (6-1-1), who received votes in the United Soccer Coaches national poll for the third straight week, scored three goals for the first time in 11 games to earn their first win over a BIG EAST opponent in program history. The Red Storm (4-4-0) dropped the inaugural meeting in the series. 

Acevedo scored twice in a game for the second time in his career after authoring his first brace in a 3-2 win over Campbell on Oct. 18, 2025.

The All-CAA forward fired in goal through the top of the box from beyond the 18-yard box in the 14th minute to erase an early St. John's penalty kick goal by Camron Boumsong. It marked the first time in Acevedo's career that the Orlando, Fla., native scored in the first half in 11 career goals.

Then three days after scoring 31 seconds into Saturday's win at Campbell, the Seahawks scored with three seconds left in the first half on a header by Gavin Carmichael, that was assisted by Andrew Hornada and two-time Coastal Athletic Association Rookie of the Week performer Cameron Keay.

Acevedo added an insurance goal in the 62nd minute on a loose ball in front of the goal, that was set up by Jackson Kirila.

UNCW, who held a 15-10 shot advantage, closes the first leg of league play on Sunday at Charleston at 6 p.m.
