Men's Golf Announces Incoming Class

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW head men's golf coach Daniel Bowden has announced the additions of Rune Bøkeid (Oslo, Norway), Darren Edwards (Fort Lewis College), Sam Hogan (Cork, Ireland), and Woramett Bodhidatta (Dodge City CC) to the program for the 2022-23 season.

"As I enter my sixth season as head coach, I would like to thank our staff and administration for allowing us to put together our largest and deepest class during my tenure at UNCW," said Bowden. "I believe we have assembled a group with both great experience and tremendous ability who will lead us to continued success in both the conference and on the national stage in the coming years. I would like to thank these new Seahawks and their families for their trust in me and our staff as we welcome them into the Seahawk Golf family. The future is bright here in Wilmington!"

Bøkeid, from Oslo, Norway, comes to UNCW as one of the highest ranked amateur golfers in program history. Rune has already been ranked as high as 335 in the Official World Golf Amateur Rankings. From August 2021 to February 2022, Bøkeid tallied three tournament victories, two runner-up finishes, and one third-place finish in multi-day events held in his home country. During this stretch, Bøkeid completed 10 of his 15 rounds under-par including six rounds in the 60s. Bøkeid has four tournament wins to his credit with his most recent being the 2022 Srixon Nordic Winter Open where he finished nine-under over four rounds after opening the tournament with a six-under-66. In 2021, Bøkeid captured the Srixon Tour U-19 events at Vestfold GK and Bjaavann GK. His career-low round of 64, eight-under-par, came at the Gamle Frederikstad Golf Club in Frederikstad, Norway.

Edwards is an accomplished graduate transfer from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. He finished the season ranked 55th in the Division II National Rankings with an adjusted scoring average of 72.44. The Skyhawks captain, Edwards concluded his career with a 15th-place finish at the NCAA Division II South Central/West Regional at the Pueblo Country Club in Pueblo, Colo. For Edwards, it was his second consecutive appearance in the NCAA regionals. Edwards was named first-team All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, for a second time, during his senior season and was recognized as the league's Academic Player of the Year. Edwards captured the 2021 Navajo Trail Open against a strong field of professionals by shooting rounds of 66, 69, and 65.

Hogan comes to the program after being ranked as high as sixth in the Irish National Ranking. Hogan won the WAGR ranked Kerry Boys Championship in 2021 which included three match-play wins at the Ballybunion Golf Club in Kerry. He finished the year ranked inside the Top 20 of the Irish Order of Merit. He also placed fifth at the Munster Boys Championship and 11th at the Connacht Championship.

Bodhidatta joins the Seahawks following two seasons at Dodge City Community College who finished the season 11th in the NJCAA Division I rankings. This spring he helped the Conquistadors to the National Junior College Athletic Association finals in Odessa, Texas and earned a Top 100 national individual ranking. In both of his seasons in Dodge City, the program competed in the NJCAA National Championship tournament. Bodhidatta fashioned a career-low tournament score of 69-73-69=211, five-under-par, and finished sixth at the Southwest Christian Invitational in his sophomore season-opener at the Lake Hefner Golf Club in Oklahoma City, Okla.

The group of Bodhidatta, Hogan, Edwards and Bøkeid join Gray Mitchum, who signed with UNCW in the fall of 2021, as members of UNCW's incoming class for 2022-23.
