Lines Finishes 30th In Long Jump At NCAAs

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana - UNCW's Courtney Lines soared 19-1.25 to finish 30th in the Women's Long Jump at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminary Round on Thursday at Indiana's Haugh Track & Field Complex.
 
The Leland, N.C., product did not qualify for the NCAA National Championships at Oregon's historic Hayward Field on June 8-11, 2022, in Eugene, Ore. The top-12 finishers in each event move on to the nationals.
 
One of three NCAA qualifiers from the UNCW track and field teams in Bloomington, Lines holds the UNCW indoor and outdoor records in the Women's Long Jump. She won the ECAC Indoor title in the event and captured gold in the Colonial Athletic Association Championships as well.
 
"Courtney is one of the nation's best in the women's long jump," said Jeff Klaves, UNCW's third-year head coach. "We will be back and I look forward to Courtney having another shot at qualifying for the NCAA finals.
 
"Today was an awesome moment for Courtney. It was fun to watch her compete and make adjustments on every jump. I know she's not going to leave satisfied. The adjustments she made were the right ones for the competition. This year was long and she achieved a lot. She's fired up and excited about being back in this moment again. We're so proud and excited for her."
 
Lines (Leland, N.C.) and Josh Parks (Kannapolis, N.C.) have completed their debuts in the NCAA East Preliminary Round. Freshman Donovan Lara (Seagrove, N.C.) competes in the Men's High Jump on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
 
"I'm obviously not happy with how I did, but I learned from this experience and I'll be prepared for it next year," said Lines, who has two years of college eligibility remaining. "It makes me hungrier. Doing long jump only at a meet is different for me because I'm usually competing in three events. I was surprisingly more relaxed that I thought I was going to be."
