UNCW Clips SFA To Earn Split At ASUN Tournament

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – UNCW edged Stephen F. Austin, 3-2, to earn a split of its two duals on the opening day of the ASUN Conference Championship on Friday.

The Seahawks, who dropped their pool play opener to top-seed Stetson, 5-0, saw their record move to 22-10 on the season.

Kaley McLaughlin and Jadyn Barry gave UNCW the lead with a three-set victory at the fifth pairing by winning the final two sets.

At the fourth pairing, Brianna Haggerty and Maddy Folks made it 2-0 with a straight-set win.

SFA drew even with wins at the second and third pairings, both going to a third set.

UNCW's Mattie Johnson and Grace Sistrunk clinched the dual with a 21-19, 21-19 win at the top pairing.

UNCW will play twice again on Saturday beginning with a 12:30 p.m. EST start against longtime rival the College of Charleston. The second dual of the day is a 5 p.m. start against Eastern Kentucky.
