Beach Volleyball Gains Split With Win Over Jacksonville

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Grace Sistrunk and Ashley Thompson won 15-8 in the third set of the second pairing to clinch a 3-2 win for UNCW against Jacksonville in beach volleyball action on Friday at the Carolina Challenge hosted by South Carolina.

The Seahawks, who gained a split of their two duals on the day with the win over JU, moved to 17-5 on the season and 7-2 against ASUN members. JU saw its record slide to 9-15.

After splitting the opening matches of the JU dual, with Maddy Folks and Jadyn Barry also earning a three-set win, the Seahawks gained a 2-1 lead behind a straight-set win at the number one pairing of Sadie Sharkey and Mattie Johnson.

Earlier in the day, the Seahawks came up short against UAB, 3-2. UNCW opened the dual with wins at the fourth and second pairings, but the Blazer took the deciding points at the first and third pairings. Mikayla Law-Heese and Dylynn Otte topped UNCW's Ellie Bucci and Tessa Rogers in three sets to clinch the win for UAB.

The Seahawks take on #19 Stetson at 1 p.m. followed by a 5 p.m. first-serve against host 14th-ranked South Carolina.
